State Secretary Matušić meets with China’s NPC delegation

On Thursday, 22 May 2025, State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić met with a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, led by Committee Chairman Lou Qinjian. The meeting reaffirmed the very good and friendly relations between the Republic of Croatia and the People’s Republic of China.
 
Matušić expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum of visits in the recent period, as well as with the planned visits for this year, which contribute to strengthening bilateral relations, as well as relations between the European Union and China—a goal Croatia strongly supports.
 
State Secretary Matušić and Chairman Lou discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and their enhancement through diplomatic, economic, scientific, and sports cooperation. Matušić emphasized that Croatia is ready to proactively cooperate with China to achieve new results on the bilateral level and to work on intensifying EU-China cooperation on global issues, global security, world peace, combating climate change, and particularly in the energy sector.
 
Matušić also expressed satisfaction with the participation of Chinese companies in numerous infrastructure projects in Croatia, which demonstrates Croatia’s openness to Chinese business operations and investments. In this regard, further strengthening of economic relations was deemed important.
 
The interlocutors also discussed current geopolitical issues, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and exchanged views on other global and regional topics.
